2015 Spring Prose and Poetry Contest

The Delaware Literary Connection (DLC) is pleased to announce its 2015 Spring Prose and Poetry Writing Contest.

Contest Guidelines:

  • Entries must be the author’s original unpublished work.
  • The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
  • Multiple submissions are welcome, as are simultaneous submissions. See fees below.
  • Prose entries can include fiction or creative nonfiction and must not exceed 2000 words, excluding the title. Entries should be double-spaced, with one-inch margins, and typed in a clear, uncomplicated 12-point font. Pages should be numbered in the upper right corner. The title should appear on each page in the upper left corner. An accompanying cover page should include the author’s name, address, phone number, email address, title of the manuscript and the word count, excluding the title. The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
  • Poems must not exceed 60 lines. Poets may enter up to three poems per submission. Poems should be typed in a clear, uncomplicated 12-point font. If a poem runs onto a second page, the pages should be numbered in the upper right corner. An accompanying cover page should include the author’s name, address, phone number, email address, and the titles and line counts for each poem submitted. The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
  • Send entries by email to: DeLitConn1993@comcast.net. The manuscript and the cover letter should NOT be combined, but should be sent as two separate attachments. Submission fees should be sent to the Delaware Literary Connection, 237 Cayman Court, North Pointe, Wilmington, Delaware 19808. Your emailed entry will not be accepted for judging until the submission fee has been received. An acknowledgment email will be sent to you upon receipt of your check.
  • Send entries by US mail to: Delaware Literary Connection, 237 Cayman Court, North Pointe, Wilmington, Delaware 19808. A check to cover the submission fee should be included with your submission.
  • Entries that do not conform to the contest guidelines will be excluded from the contest.
  • Manuscripts will not be returned.

Deadlines:

Entries must be postmarked no later than Monday, April 27, 2015. Winners will be announced by May 18, 2015.

Contest Fees:

$10 per entry (Prose: one 2000 word or less manuscript; Poetry: 3 poems of no more than 60 lines each). Checks should be made out to: Delaware Literary Connection.

Judging:

Independent judging will be on a blind basis. The judges’ decisions will be final.

Prizes:

The first place winners of each genre will receive a $100 prize.
